Satisfied
“And they all ate and were satisfied.” (Mark 6:42)
We all know the story, don’t we? Jesus feeds the five thousand with a few loaves and even fewer fish. We know the story so well that we breeze over it with same attention to detail as driving down Raymond-Clinton Road. However, one detail should not escape our eye – “they were all satisfied.” Listen. I have served at small meals and big meals, and rarely are “all” satisfied. There is always that one person that complains about the food being served too late or too early, too hot or too cold, too spicy or too bland. As the old saying goes, “You cannot please all the people all the time.” Well, unless you are Jesus.
What we find in Jesus is an abundance of satisfaction. No human need nor desire comes to Christ and leaves disappointed. We were made in His image, fitted for Him as large, green leaves as fitted to receive the sun, as fins were fitted for the water, as pieces were fitted for a puzzle. As the psalmist declares, “In His presence is a fullness of joy.” (Ps. 16:11) He is strength for all our weakness, joy for all our sorrow, help for all our hindrances, mercy for all our misery, grace for all our sin. In every way, Christ Jesus is our satisfaction.
More than simply being fit satisfaction, Christ is an everlasting satisfaction. His joy does not diminish, nor does His pleasure fade. Heaven is nothing more than the eternal place setting from which we will feast upon Christ and enjoy the smile of His face from thousands upon thousands of years. In those days (if we can even call them such), none will ever ask for a change of scenery nor topic of conversation. Christ will be to us as the old friend in whom hours pass unawares because we are lost in the joy of the moment.
My friends, are you satisfied? Are you finding the fullness of joy found in Christ, or are you hopping from one earthly watering hole to another? One will satisfy to no end; the other will disappoint forever. If you long to be satisfied, long to be in Christ.
