Satisfaction
God never does the bare minimum. Scriptures frequently testify to His abundant kindness, His plentiful redemption, and His boundless mercy. The very creation of man testifies to God’s abundance. When God created man and woman, He created them with far more than the bear necessities. More than simply eating, He created us with taste buds to savour and enjoy the taste of every tree of the garden. He filled the world with birds that our ears may be filled with more than mere instruction; He littered every field with the widest array of flower and fauna to fill our eyes with beauty and grandeur. Do we not see how our God goes above and beyond our wildest expectations?
But what of sin? Whereas God promises and overdelivers, sin always underdelivers. Satan uses the ol’ “bait and switch” with us so often. As with Adam and Eve, he promised much but delivered little. The promise to be like God defaced the very image of God in them. Does that sound familiar? Sin looked good bathing on that distant roof, but little did David know what sleepless nights would follow after a single one-night stand. Achan lost himself in the lustre of plundered treasure, not realizing the silver and gold would cost him his soul. Need I go on? Each of us know the spiritual equivalent of buyer’s remorse.
My friends, if you want to drink from a fountain that never runs dry, if you want to have more joy than when the world’s grain and wine abound, if you want a joy greater than this world could ever know, then come to Christ. Our peace and our joy will never live “paycheck to paycheck” as long as we seek them in the riches of Jesus Christ. More than salvation, our Savior secures for us satisfaction.
