Titus: A Church on Purpose

When Paul writes to Titus, his letter begins and ends with two sides of the same coin – to bring order and to do good works. One may say that the form aids the function, that the shape of the church shapes the church. Paul yearns to see in the body what Peter saw in the Head, that “Jesus went about always doing good.” As I ponder our church over the years, this is our same yearning. One question repeatedly asked over the years reflects this earnest desire – how can I use the gifts and graces God has given me to serve His church? Over the next fourteen weeks, I want to frame Paul’s letter to Titus around that question – what is the church’s purpose? And how do we, as members, play a role in it?
