Celia was born June 5, 1929 on a farm in Tylertown, MS to the late Alma McCain Wood and Henry Albert Wood Sr. She graduated from New Zion School where she was an outstanding member of the basketball team. Following high school, she graduated from Draughon’s Business School in Jackson, MS, and went on to work for the Russell Company in Jackson. While working in Jackson, she met her husband, Attorney George E. Shaw. George loved to fly and swooned Celia on their first date with a flight around Jackson. George and Celia were married for 57 years, and during that time they continued to enjoy flying and travelling the world together.
Celia was an active part of the Raymond community serving with the Hinds County 4-H, Girl Scouts, and was an active member of the Raymond Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. As a member of the church she served with the Women of the Church, sang in the choir, and worked with the children of Vacation Bible School.
In addition to serving, Celia loved to travel with her family. She spent many years cheering on her grandchildren at horse shows, and always greeted them after school everyday with one of her favorite home cooked southern dishes. When she wasn’t travelling, she would make sure that she tuned in to cheer on her Atlanta Braves. She was an avid sports fan, she had a passion for life, and she was always planning the next adventure.
